Sweeney Todd: The 2012 London Cast Album

The CamRate Summary:

PositivesPositives

Michael Ball has never sounded more in character, And Mz Staunton is nothing but a pure genius in the way she mines the comedy from a dark role and then slips easily into the viscious selfish side of Mrs.Lovett.I can thoroughly recommend this CD.Sweeney Todd (The 2012 London Cast Recording)Whether you have seen the show or not.Ginger.I would recommend this CD to anyone who loves musical theatre. Imelda Staunton eclipses my previous favourite (Maria Friedman) and Michael Ball is a revelation.I saw the production in Chichester - loved it but doubted that it would record well - I was wrong!!After seeing the new production in the West End earlier in the year I decided I would have to add this excellent cast recording to my collection.

NegativesNegatives

It is a good version, but its not production of Sweeney todd is really good, Michael ball shines as you would expect him to and Imelda Staunton is really good. This product recieves only 2 stars however because it misses out a large number of songs that appeared on stage, Pirellis songs are no where to be seen, and the jude, beadle and johanna all have their own songs missing. Playing this album all the way through misses out large chunks of the story. Im not quite sure why they decided to take out songs, maybe they were running low on recording time...
