Its a family affair asWayne N.J.Hills sophomore Jaaron recently became the third Hayek to earn an offer from Rutgerswithin the last 12 months.
A 6-1, 180-pound athlete with twitch, Jaaron has already shown vast potential throughout his sophomore season, while playing varsity with his older brothers Tyler and Hunter.
And it appears hell play at the Power 5 level like his brothers to come before him.
Coach Demikoff pulled me out and just told me that Rutgers offered me a full scholarship, Hayek told , Wednesday. At first, I really didnt believe him, so I was pretty shocked.
It felt amazing, it felt really good, especially with both of my brothers going there. It would be amazing to play on the same field as them even though we are a couple years apart.
In-depth with new Rutgers QB Kyle Bolin
Hayek is versatile and projects to a number of positions.
I can play receiver, cornerback, too, he said. I can really play anything on the defensive side of the ball. Nickel, linebacker, safety, corner.
And that versatility is what caught the eye of the Rutgers staff.
It feels great, especially since I wasnt expecting it this early, he said. I thought I would have to show up at their camp first and prove to them what Ive got. I know the Rutgers offer opens up a gateway of other offers, so Im really excited about that and whatever exposure it opens up for me. And Ill keep working and keep running.
Hayek attended Saturdays spring game with his older brothers, who are set to begin their freshman years on the banks.
Rutgers top recruits react to the spring game
I went into a meeting with director of high school relations Rick Mantz and he was talking about what they are coming into. I said hi to coach Ash and I talked to coach Busch mostly, he said. He also said he was looking forward to my track times. I talked to Jafar Williams a little bit and he said he was excited to see my film for the upcoming season.
Hayek runs the 100, 200 and 4X100 with his older brothers. But which of the three is the fastest?
I dont know yet this year, Jaaron said. Me and Tyler are pretty close. But I think Hunter is still faster than both of us.
Coaches from Pitt visited Wayne Hills Tuesday to inquire about Hayek, and Temple coaches are scheduled to visit Friday.
Hayek will camp at a number of schools this summer including North Carolina, Rutgers, Pitt, Penn State, Boston College, Columbia and Temple.
And hell also be at the Nike N.J. Opening this weekend and the Adidas 3 Stripe Challenge on May 7.
But when will Hayek return to Rutgers?
I have nothing set for now. Maybe with my brother and stuff like that. I think theyre getting together with Johnathan Lewis to throw and I think I might go with them.
The Top 50 weekly roundup
Hayek admits to Penn State being somewhat of a dream school while growing up. But Rutgers Big Ten foe will have to go through Rutgers if they ever choose to offer.
Since my brothers are going there, it honestly feels like home, he said. I consider it home. Every time I go there, they make it feel like family. So I feel good about it.
It feels like home. Every time we go there, they treat us like family. I feel like its a family-oriented program there. They make you feel comfortable every time you go there. It feels right.
In 2016 as a sophomore, Hayek accumulated 30 tackles, one sack, two INTs, two pass break-ups, a fumble recovery, 35 rushing yards, 89 receiving yards, 79 kick return yards, 48 punt return yards and three total TDs.
