Ponderosa Zoo & RTC

#zoo #point_of_interest #establishment Had a fantastic time with the kids on a lovely sunny day. Play areas were great, and its compact enough for little legs to walk around all the areas without too much whining! Pony rides were also a great hit and although its just a walk round the paddock, for 1.50 its just right for 3-7 year olds.

The range of animals was good, but you need to be there at the right time for some of them, as the shy ones like the wild cats only came out for feeding time, which was 3:30 when we went. The lemurs and porcupine were probably the biggest hits with the kids. A lot of the other animals are the same as tropical world in Leeds, which weve been to a bit, so the kids were a bit underwhelmed. Overall its a bit shabbier and a bit more amateurish than tropical world, but still a good day out.

One area they could definitely improve on is the food. The cafe is very limited and had run out of tea and milk when I went about an hour after opening on a weekend! They said they were going to get some from the restaurant, but I didnt bother hanging about as they didnt really have any food either, other than ice cream. We headed to the restaurant for lunch, which was just a carvery as it was Sunday. The food was okay, and not a bad price, but there was no veggie option, although they did say we could have the veg from the carvery for the price of a childs carvery - but carrots, peas and potatoes isnt really a meal... Drinks were also slow, as it was busy there was a big queue at the bar and very little table service.

Next time I will definitely take a picnic as there was plenty seating outside to eat your own. Not sure what youd do if its raining though - so will probably only go back in good weather.
